Senior Associate Agnese Gerharde Appointed as WIPO Domain Name Panelist 

COBALT is delighted to announce that Agnese Gerharde, Senior Associate in our Intellectual Property practice, has been appointed to the World Intellectual Property Organization Arbitration and Mediation Center’s (WIPO Centre) List of Domain Name Panelists under the .LV Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.

Effective from 1 October 2024, WIPO’s Center now offers out-of-court dispute resolution services for .LV domain names. This service builds upon the WIPO-established Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), with extended scope of rights covered and added provision that allows disputes to be handled not only in Latvian but also in English, provided the parties agree or are based outside Latvia. This new alternative dispute service will provide a quicker, simpler way to resolve both domestic and cross-border domain name disputes.

As WIPO panelist, Agnese will adjudicate cases under the .LV Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy, which, unlike the UDRP, in addition to trademark rights also addresses complaints based on geographical indications and company names registered in the Latvian Commercial Register. This expanded scope of rights allows for broader protection of intellectual property rights and fairer .LV domain name use.
