2025 - 04 - 03
COBALT has become a member of the Federation of Security and Defence Industries of Latvia (FSDI Latvia), the sole organization representing Latvia’s security and defence industry and research at both national and international levels.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to join FSDI Latvia. COBALT attorneys are providing essential legal support to the security, defence, and military industries in Latvia and the Baltics,” stated Lauris Liepa, Managing Partner at COBALT. “Our aim is to facilitate provision of products and services, attract investment, foster international partnerships, and contribute to the strengthening of our collective security.”
Based on its previous experience of working with the defence industry clients both in Latvia and abroad, COBALT together with the FSDI Latvia members will offer targeted legal solutions to address industry challenges. The firm will support companies in attracting public and private investment and promote international cooperation for the development of new digital technologies and products in the defence and security sectors.
The security and defence industry has become a critical cornerstone of the Latvian and European economic and defence systems, particularly in the current complex geopolitical environment. As security challenges escalate and the need for robust defence capabilities is reinforced, the importance of this sector continues to grow both domestically and internationally.
FSDI Latvia unites companies, educational, and research institutions, as well as several associate members – major foreign military manufacturers. The federation actively cooperates with key ministries of the Republic of Latvia, including Defence, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Economy, Education and Science, and Smart Administration and Regional Development, as well as the Saeima (the parliament of Latvia).
Internationally, FSDI Latvia represents Latvian industry in the NATO Industry Advisory Group and participates in the Science and Technology Organisation. At the European level, it consults with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space, the European Defence Agency, and maintains bilateral cooperation with relevant organizations abroad.
