COBALT Defends Pūre Chocolate Trademarks

On 28 September 2015, COBALT litigators notched an appellate victory, successfully defending the trademark registrations of Pūre Chocolate SIA in a cancellation action filed by German company Tchibo Markenverwaltungs GmbH & Co based on the claimant’s earlier Community trademark registrations.

The Riga Regional Court held in favor of Pūre at both the trial level and on appeal, finding that the trademarks are not confusingly similar and rejecting the cancellation action.

COBALT partner and head of the IP and Technologies Practice Group Ingrida Karina-Berzina and senior associate Sandija Novicka represented Pure Chocolate SIA at the Riga Regional Court.

Pūre Chocolate SIA is a family-owned candy and truffle manufacturer operating in the town of Pūre, Latvia. The company exports its delicious products to 17 countries.
