COBALT advised SmartCap on investment in Superangels new deep tech fund

COBALT advised SmartCap on investment in Superangel’s new 50 million fund, which invests mainly in Baltic and Nordic deep tech startups. SmartCap is an anchor investor in the new fund. Investors include Kersti Kaljulaid – a former President of Estonia, who led the country between 2016-2021.

SmartCap is a small fund manager founded in 2011 that provides cornerstone investments for private fund managers to create a vital venture capital market in Estonia and enable ambitious and innovative Estonian companies to emerge and grow globally. Superangel is an early-stage investment fund with current investments of up to 1 million euros.

According to Superangel’s founder Veljo Otsason, the focus of the new fund is deep tech, in which companies place great emphasis on the development of science and technology. In total, the second fund plans to make about 40 investments over a four-year period, with several investments already in the pipeline.

The transaction was advised by COBALT’s Partner Kristel Raidla-Talur and Specialist Counsel Greete-Kristiine Kuru.
