New appointments at COBALT Riga office

COBALT Riga office announces a new partner appointment and change in the management of the office.

As of February 1, Ingrida Karina-Berzina joins the firm as a partner heading the Intellectual Property & Information Technologies practice group. She is a dual qualified attorney (US and Latvia), a Latvian and European trademark and design attorney, and is qualified to practice before OHIM and the USPTO. Ms Karina-Berzina is a Board member of the Latvian Association of Patent Attorneys and is a longtime lecturer on IP and general business law at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and the Riga Graduate School of Law. She has an extensive experience representing a transatlantic client base in matters relating to intellectual property strategy, registrations, disputes, and commercialization.

The appointment of I. Karina-Berzina reflects the firm's commitment to further strengthening its IP & IT practice as an area of strategic importance for businesses. As of February 1, 2012, Dace Silava-Tomsone will serve as Managing Partner of the firm. Ms Silava-Tomsone has been with the firm since its inception in 1994 and has successfully led its EU & Competition and Transactions practice groups. She is a Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 and PLC Which lawyer? recommended practitioner in the areas of Corporate and M&A, EU & Competition and Real Estate.

Founding partner Girts Lejins, a recommended practitioner by Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 and PLC Which lawyer? in the areas of Corporate & Commercial, Banking & Finance and Dispute Resolution, will continue to serve clients in the respective areas. Partner Guntars Zile will become the head of the firm's Transactions practice group. Mr. Zile has been with the firm for 15 years and is a PLC Which lawyer? recommended practitioner in the areas of Corporate and M&A, and Real Estate. In 2011 he represented clients in many significant M&A transactions, including representing AXA Private Equity and Resource Partners in the acquisition of a majority stake in Baltcom, acting for Hansa Auto (Amserv Group) in the acquisition of Adam Auto, and assisting BaltCap in its acquisition of a stake in Runway.
