2020 - 04 - 17
COBALT advises Lauma Fabrics, one of the leading textile manufacturers in the Baltics and Europe, in connection with deliveries of COVID19 personal protective equipment (PPE) to Estonia and Latvia.
Our work includes reviewing supply and aircraft lease agreements, drafting sales agreements and financing agreements, negotiating and other documentation.
From COBALT the legal team is led by senior associate Madis Reppo and partner Martin Simovart. The team includes specialist counsel Elena Hansov, senior associate Tõnu Kolts, associates Liina Saaremets and Tiit-Gregor Mets from COBALT’s Tallinn office and partner Sandija Novicka, associates Marija Berdova and Artūrs Valderšteins and assistant lawyer Gabriela Šantare from Riga.
European Medical Group (EMG) and Group company Lauma Fabrics have so far organised two PPE cargo deliveries to Estonia and Latvia, to provide much needed masks and respirators in the fight against COVID19. The second delivery on April 16 carried a record-large cargo of 3PLY surgical masks and FFP2 respirators in the Baltics, a total of four million protective masks and 18,000 respirators. The flight costs were co-financed by the European Union within its Civil Protection Mechanism.
The agreement made between Lauma Fabrics and the National Health Service of Latvia states that the company will deliver 5 million surgical masks and 1 million respirators in total, with a third delivery of PPE products expected shortly. Given the heavy reliance of Estonia, Latvia and the entire Europe on PPE deliveries from China, Lauma Fabrics is planning to start manufacturing surgical masks and respirators in its factory in Liepaja, Latvia.
